Are Piano Lessons Better Than Self-Taught Lessons?

Playing piano can be self taught or can be taught by a professional teacher, depending on your personal preference and pace of learning.

Choosing to self-learn allows you the luxury of learning from home and at your own pace. All you need is a tuned piano and a piano tutorial, but bear in mind, the disadvantages of self-learning:

  • Lose focus due to external distractions
  • No proper guidance from a professional
  • Fingering mistakes
  • High risk of failure with no discipline to follow through

With a qualified teacher, you may choose to have your piano lessons at a music school or at your own home. By choosing to have a teacher, your lessons are organized, and you will be required to keep up with lessons, and not be easily distracted as you have a teacher to watch over your progress.

In conclusion, you will be better off with a higher chance of completing the grades on how to play the piano chords with the right techniques when you tutor with a professional teacher as it keeps your learning:

  • Organized
  • Focused
  • Disciplined
